The Bunjil Aboriginal Culture and Dance Club (ACDC) Inc. of Wurundjeri and other Nations are culturally driven to attract and inspire young Aboriginals who wish to develop self-awareness and self-confidence.
The mission is for members to strengthen their belief in Aboriginal culture, to experience the depth of Aboriginal culture and learn to feel proud of their culture and ancestors.
All Bunjil ACDC dancers are of Aboriginal descent and are individually proud to be among hundreds of thousands of others with similar lineage. Performing either as individuals or in a group, they show their joy in being part of an ongoing corroboree, bringing joy to their families, elders and ancestors, and of course, their audiences.
Using a mixture of traditional and contemporary music and movements, the group’s performance showcases stories from the dreamtime to modern times. They also bring a message which aids the reconciliation process and inspires all people to “do better, to be better”.
Since forming in 1992, the group has performed at a wide variety of events and venues including Moomba, the 1993 AFL Grand Final, Michael Jackson’s arrival in Melbourne, Sumnation World Cultural Festival, Dandenong Show, Doveton Show, Government House and opened the “Awakening” ceremony of the Australia Gardens Project at the Royal Botanical Gardens, Cranbourne, as well as various local Council and community events.
The club presents “Aboriginal Spirituality”, a 30 minute program with interpretation and explanation by presenters. |
